Accountants' Defence was incorporated in January 2004 to provide its members who are accountants in practice with advice and representation concerning complaints, regulatory and disciplinary cases, through a team of professional advisers. The specialists include three well-known chartered accountants, a barrister and Christopher Cope, a solicitor, who is also a member of the Academy of Experts. Christopher Cope dealt with complaints/discipline at the ICAEW from 1976 to 1983. For the last 20 years, he has specialised in accountants’ disciplinary problems, representing over 500 accountants, 300 before accountancy tribunals.
Practising accountants have never been under greater pressure with practice assurance and the money laundering regulations adding yet more worries.
